You don't need tons of data to get started with "metrics."

In fact, you can start by tracking Just One Thing.

We'll call this Metrics Level 001.

The point here is to

• get in the habit of collecting data - because "incomplete" data comes with its own problems
• (maybe) give yourself the start of an insight

This 1-page template helps you record things by calendar day, and gives you a year-at-a-glance view of how things are going.

It's meant to be printed out and written on.

Here are some ways you could use it: Answer a single question like

• "How am I feeling about the workday?" - fill in the day's spot with an emoji or a "mood" color to indicate things like "good", "neutral / meh", "grumpy / stressed / overwhelmed"
• Whether you worked "on" your business today (vs. "in" it). This is a simple yes or no, which you can indicate by filling in the day's block only when you can answer "yes"
• Whether you worked billable hours.
• Whether you participated in a networking event.
• Whether you published a social post, blog, or other piece of content.
• Whether you had to push a scheduled task to another day because you ran out of time.

Once you start filling it in, you might use it to …..

• Get a sense of whether you're saying that you care, but not really putting your efforts there
• Keep yourself accountable
• See if you're hitting a "capacity" wall - mentally or emotionally
• See if your systems are working for you
